The Sudanese Microfinance Development Company (SMDC)
The Sudanese Microfinance Apex Institution was founded in 2008 as an Apex institution under 1925 companies’ law modified 2015 .The Central Bank owns 99% of its shares and Ministry of Finance and economic planning (MOFEP) owns 1%. Within the MDTF and under the trusteeship of the World Bank the Apex was formulated as a facility, and was provided with $10 million as a grant from MTDF. The Central Bank provided the same amount as counterpart fund. The project activities aimed to establish a strong and sustainable microfinance sector that serves the sector of small producers and the economically active poor. To achieve this goal, the company has been entrusted with the task of providing technical assistance to build capacities and raise the efficiency of the performance of financing institutions and training workers in the sector as well as providing financial support represented in the provision of wholesale financing or participation in the heads Funds or financing initial studies and market surveys in addition to spreading the culture of microfinance and introducing the best regional and international practices. To be a strong Apex capable of leading a vibrant inclusive microfinance industry in Sudan
Strengthen the capacity of Microfinance Institutions through technical and financial support to ensure the sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness of the provided services, and the inclusion of small economically active poor producers in the economic cycle
To propose policies and measures that contributes to upgrading work in the field of microfinance and expands the scope of services and through exchange of visions with all stakeholders
To contribute to the government strategy and supports the focus on pro poor policies and poverty alleviation
To provide opportunities for training and capacity building of technical and administrative capacities of MFIs and ensure the continuity of service provision (Sustainability).
To provide wholesale finance to MFIs and grass root organizations working in the field of microfinance
Create microfinance networks in order to formulate a unified national vision and to standardize the service delivery based on the shared experience
